Why I treat autonomic nervousness, I’ve been through it myself
hello. I am Dr. Sangchul Hwang, who researches and treats autonomic nerves. In the past, I experienced unexplained urinary incontinence and burning mouth, which disrupted my daily life even though my tests showed “no abnormalities.” That’s when I realized that behind symptoms such as hyperhidrosis, oliguria, bladder pain, and burning mouth, I had constitutional, autonomic, and circulatory problems. I realized that behind symptoms such as hyperhidrosis, urinary and bladder pain, burning mouth, insomnia, tinnitus, and brain fog, constitution, autonomic nerves, body tension, and circulation problems are intertwined together. Therefore, I now look at the constitution and autonomic nerve balance together, not just the symptoms, and try to find a way for the body and mind to return to normal life with my patients.

Look at the patient’s “ebb and flow” before symptoms

Symptoms associated with the autonomic nervous system, such as hyperhidrosis, tinnitus, burning mouth, bladder pain, and sleep problems, often have a significant impact on daily functioning and quality of life, even if there are no abnormalities on examination. I interpret the cause of symptoms from a “whole body balance” perspective, assessing the autonomic nervous system’s tension-recovery balance, constitutional vulnerabilities, and sleep-fatigue-stress responses.
What is the reason for the discomfort,
and the cause of your discomfort
to help you understand exactly what is causing your discomfort.
Treating autonomic disorders

Hyperhidrosis
Does sweating make you more nervous, and nervousness makes you sweat?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes you to feel uncomfortable and stressed about sweating on a daily basis. It can be caused by a combination of tension, stress, and constitutional factors, and can affect your daily life even if you don’t have any abnormalities on examination.
From a Chinese medicine perspective, the key axis that causes and maintains symptoms is organized first, and then the tension response, sympathetic nerve hyperactivity, and constitutional heat/circulation flow are examined and connected step by step to achieve the goal of “living with less sweat”.

Interstitial cystitis
Although inflammation is not evident on examination for cystitis, it can lead to a recurring pattern of frequent urination and lower abdominal discomfort and pain.
Bladder pain has many different and often intertwined causes.
Bladder overactivity, pelvic floor tension, and stress reactions can be linked together.
Start with a calm assessment of your lifestyle, symptoms, and the flow of causes.
We organize and approach your symptoms in a structured way, starting with why they are occurring, and then focus on ways to reduce recurrence and restore daily function.

Burning mouth sensation
You may have heard that you have a persistent burning, warmth, or foreign body sensation in your mouth, but your tests show no abnormalities. Burning mouth is more than just a localized problem; it’s often the result of a combination of nerve sensitivity, autonomic tension, sleep-stress response, and constitutional imbalances. It’s an invisible pain that has a cause and a pattern. By examining your daily routine, how your symptoms fluctuate, and how you sleep and relax, we can explain how your symptoms are created and work together to stabilize nerves, regulate autonomic nerves, and restore your body’s overall condition.

Tinnitus/Dizziness
Tests show nothing wrong, but recurring ringing, throbbing, or dizziness in your ears is making life difficult?
Ear pain is often accompanied by dizziness, anxiety, poor sleep, and difficulty concentrating. Rather than just looking at the symptom, we look at the overall balance and recovery of the body, including autonomic balance, neck and head myofascial tension, and restorative flow to understand why symptoms persist. Clearing the flow of connections between the ear, brain, and autonomic nerves can lower the flow of symptoms.

Treatment process
Unexplained pain and discomfort, don’t suffer alone. We don’t look at symptoms in isolation, we look at the balance, autonomic nerve flow, and constitutional patterns of your entire body. We’ll assess your autonomic excitability, muscle tone, and constitutional weaknesses, and work with you through the recovery process.

Initial consultation & symptom history analysis
Look at “history” before symptoms
– Timing of Symptoms / Aggravating and Relieving Factors / Lifestyle
– Medical, testing, and treatment history
– Changes in sleep, stress, nervousness, and physical strength
– Constitutional weaknesses (cold, irritability, fatigue, hot flashes, etc.)
Identify “patterns” before single symptoms to narrow down the range of causes.

Performing a Basic-Functional Test Set
Multifaceted assessment of autonomic nervous system, constitution, and physical condition
physical condition
– HRV autonomic testing (sympathetic/parasympathetic balance)
– Electroencephalography (concentration, alertness, fatigue, tension)
– Ex-body body shape and posture analysis
– Body water and edema (BWA)
– Blood tests (liver and kidney function, glucose metabolism, lipids)
– Urinalysis (pH, proteinuria, inflammatory markers)
– Constitutional tests

Interpreting Results & Explaining Body-Neural Patterns
We don’t just look at the numbers, we interpret and explain the “body pattern” that caused your symptoms.
Integrative interpretation from a “what patterns is my body responding to” perspective. We connect the dots between sympathetic-parasympathetic balance, relaxation-recovery rhythms, constitutional sensitivities and circulation, sleep-fatigue-stress responses, and more to help you understand why your symptoms worsen and recur in certain situations.

Personalized treatment recovery plan
Design a personalized treatment plan based on your test results and body patterns.
Rather than treating only the symptoms, we aim to relieve overactive tension patterns and restore restorative functions. We will guide you through a safe and realistic recovery plan that includes acupuncture, acupressure, radiofrequency, physical therapy, and herbal medicine treatments in stages based on your constitution, neurological patterns, and living environment, along with treatment expectations, priorities, and lifestyle management points.
Together we evaluate your entire body with specialized diagnostic equipment
Rather than just focusing on symptoms, we use objective test data to understand why symptoms occur and what body parts and nerve patterns are affected. Based on this information, we can tailor a combination of acupuncture, moxibustion, physical therapy, and herbal prescriptions to the cause of your symptoms to ensure efficient and accurate treatment.

BWA Body Composition Analysis Test

Body Shape/Posture Analysis Inspection (Exbody)

EEG-Autonomic Balance Test (OmniFIT MindCare)

Blood tests. Urinalysis
Whole-body multifrequency bioelectrical resistance analysis provides a precise assessment of body fat, muscle mass, lean body mass, as well as intracellular and extracellular water and edema indices (ECW/TBW). It identifies the qualitative balance of body composition and water distribution, rather than just weight or BMI, which is important in cases of fatigue, edema, delayed recovery, and metabolic imbalance. Objectively monitor body composition and autonomic recovery by comparing pre- and post-treatment changes.

Exbody is an examination system that uses precision cameras and a special grid panel to accurately analyze body posture and movement. It is mainly applied to people with chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain, postural imbalances, and office workers, students, and athletes who stay in the same position for a long time.
Based on your results, we’ll customize a bodywork and exercise prescription to help you achieve pain relief and structural and functional stability.

OmniFIT MindCare is a diagnostic device that simultaneously measures brain waves and autonomic nervous system responses. The test allows you to visualize your mind-body response patterns, including stress, fatigue, concentration, and emotional stability.
This short test can reveal your brain’s arousal, relaxation, and autonomic nervous system balance, making it easy for you to understand your condition and help you design a treatment plan together.
This test is used to assess the root cause of a variety of autonomic nervous system-related symptoms, including insomnia, nervousness, chronic fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

Tailoring TCM treatments to individualized causes
“Why does it take so long?” “Why does it hurt so much when my tests show no abnormalities?” Many people come to us with questions like these. Even in the same area, the same pain, the cause can vary from person to person. For some, it’s an overactive autonomic nervous system, while for others, it’s more of a myofascial/postural issue or chronic inflammation. That’s why we don’t treat everyone in a one-size-fits-all way. We use a combination of acupuncture, tui na, radiofrequency, and physical therapy based on your individual test results and constitution to help you understand “why your body is behaving in this pattern,” and to unravel the cause one by one.

Acupuncture
Targeting Inflammation-Pain and Autonomic Nerves Together
microinjection therapy
This treatment involves injecting small amounts of Chinese herbal ingredients directly into the area of need, combining the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. It can be used on areas of long-standing inflammation, overly tense muscles and fascia, and irritated nerves to relieve localized pain and swelling, and help calm autonomic overreactivity. Rather than applying a large amount of medicine to the entire body at once, it’s applied where it’s needed and for as long as it’s needed, allowing for fine-tuning to match your constitution and test results.

Chu Na Method
Body Shape – Pelvic-Spinal Alignment
Treatments to reduce nerve-fascia strain
Chuna is a hand-administered manual therapy that gently adjusts misalignments around the pelvis, spine, rib cage, and neck. When structures are misaligned, the nerve-fascia structures connected to the autonomic nerves are constantly irritated, causing pain and decreased function. Rather than over-correcting or over-stimulating, we aim to gradually restore your posture and structure by using a safe range of adjustments that are tailored to your body type, muscle tone, and pain sensitivity.
Radiofrequency (deep fever) therapy
Warming to the deep layers,
Care for circulation-edema-fascial tension together
Radiofrequency deep heat therapy is a physical therapy modality that delivers heat not just to the surface of the skin, but to deeper tissues such as muscles, fascia, and fatty layers to improve circulation. When used on areas of old tension, pain, edema, cellulite, and poor circulation, it can gradually raise tissue temperatures to improve blood flow, flush out waste products, and reduce swelling. For autonomic patients with cold hands and feet, tight muscles, and slow recovery, the focus is on creating an environment that allows the body to relax itself through “deep warmth” without overstimulation.

Physical therapy
Basic foundational care to help relieve pain and support recovery
In the early stages of acute pain, it can be difficult to use acupuncture and moxibustion immediately and intensely, so by first reducing the intensity of the pain and relieving tension with physical therapy, the body may respond better to subsequent Chinese medicine treatments. We don’t just use machines, we adjust the intensity and time according to your test results and constitution, so that your body can easily transition into recovery mode.

As your body recovers, so will your autonomic nervous system.
By simultaneously checking autonomic, constitutional, and recovery functions, we design “personalized care” rather than “symptom-centered care.”
Test items can be adjusted according to your symptoms and personal condition. Treatment is aimed at compensating for constitutional weaknesses and restoring a balance of relaxation and recovery.
